Suicide Loss Melodies – Healing Tunes

Suicide Loss Melodies

Your loved one just took his or her own life? Listening to songs that the person appreciated while they were alive gives a place and a chance to pay tribute to them. It's a way of talking about those who have been lost. Of evoking traits of their personality, their tastes, or their past. The lyrics of certain songs can sometimes even be interpreted as a farewell word that the deceased did not have time to pronounce.

The musical accompaniment chosen also reflects the pain of the living. When you lose someone, it is only natural to take refuge in music. Music also creates a bond between those who listen to it. It is a thread, a guide and a means of creating a soothing atmosphere. Especially during the difficult time of saying goodbye to a loved one. It is a source of courage and comfort.

Funeral music is dark and sometimes disturbing. It is often rejected in favor of light-hearted and sometimes even cheerful pieces. Those are not necessarily associated with mourning. Music, in this case, is a bearer of hope.

Songs written after the loss of a loved one

  • Queen - Who Wants to live Forever

Released in 1986 on the album A Kind of Magic. Brian May's inspiration would have come from the disappearance of his father.

  • Coldplay - Fix You

A love song about loss, rooted in the disappearance of her stepfather, Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth Paltrow's father.

  • Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven

Following the tragic disappearance of his 4-year-old son, Eric Clapton would compose this song about pain and loss a few months later.

Songs for deep reflection

  • Nick Drake - Day is Done

A song about what's lost and won't come back.

  • Alicia Keys - Like You'll Never See Me Again

An R&B song that invites you to live each moment as the last.

  • Johnny Cash - Hurt

Arriving at the end of his life, Johnny Cash signed a few stripped-down and poignant songs. Among them is a masterful cover of a Trent Reznor song, which has since become a classic.

  • Otis Redding - Try a Little Tenderness

A classic by the late Otis Redding, as a consolation in the face of death.

Songs to soothe oneself

  • Robbie Williams - Angels

A song that was a phenomenal success. It's all in the title.

  • Iz - Somewhere over the Rainbow

Ukulele, comforting voice. What a beautiful, dreamy world!

  • Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

A beautiful song, a voice that fell from the sky, to remember how strong a love could be.

  • Sinéad O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U

Suffering, after the loss of a loved one.

  • Gary Jules - Mad World

First international hit of Tears for Fears in 1982. The song was covered by Gary Jules in the early 2000s for the movie Donnie Darko.

  • The Rolling Stones - Wild Horses

One of the Rolling Stones' most poignant songs.
